When we arrived, the wind was blowing hard so Dean headed straight to the kiteboarding school "Jibes" to book some lessons. The wind during the following six days was very erratic and resulted in a total of only five and half hours of tuition. Still, it was enough for Dean to completely master kiteboarding and to even show the instructors a few tricks. These "tricks" involved face-planting, drinking vast quantities of sea water and kite-crashing, all of which were performed with great panache. Luckily, "Jibes" happened to have a pretty good restaurant and bar with decent music and comfy sofas, so when not kiteboarding we spent most of our time just hanging out there. In fact, apart from once or twice, we ate lunch and dinner there every day. After six frustrating days of waiting for the right wind conditions, we headed off up the coast to Nha Trang, a four hour bus journey away. We had read that Nha Trang is the best place in Vietnam for scuba diving and snorkeling, but when we arrived, we found it to be another noisy city with busy traffic, lots of high rise hotels and Western style resorts and a beach that was not particularly great, so we decided to leave after only one day.
